The 10 Longest Winning Streaks in Premier League History

Chelsea's win at Crystal Palace on the 17th was their 11th win on the trot, but where does that put them in the all-time list of consecutive victories in the top flight?

More interestingly, did the other teams in this list go on to win the league that season?

10. Chelsea (2005/06)

Number of consecutive wins: 10

Having won the league the year previously in his first season in England, Jose Mourinho started his second campaign in the best manner possible. After beginning with a nine game winning streak from the first day of the season, the Blues went one better to record 10 games in a row.

From November through to January, Chelsea were unstoppable during the many London derbies; defeating the likes of Arsenal away, local rivals Fulham at home and West Ham away in brilliant period, before being stopped at home by Charlton Athletic 1-1.

Where did they finish that season? 1st, eight points clear of second placed United.

9. Liverpool (2005/06)

Number of consecutive wins: 10

Ironically, in exactly the same period that Chelsea were embarking on a 10 game winning streak, Rafa Benitez's high flying Liverpool were having a run of their own in almost identical fashion. 

The Reds started the run with a 2-0 victory at home against West Ham and went on to beat the likes of Aston Villa, Manchester City and bitter rivals Everton all away from home. The run ended when Bolton Wanderers held them to a 2-2 draw at the Reebok Stadium.

Where did they finish that season? 3rd, but they did win the FA Cup

8. Arsenal (1997/98)

Number of consecutive wins: 10

As the 1997/98 Premier League season came to an exciting climax, Arsenal battled with Manchester United for the title, but it was the Gunners who upped their game by winning 10 games in a row from March to May.

The highlight, a 1-0 win at Old Trafford put the Gunners in pole position and the 10th win, a 4-0 victory at home to Everton, secured a first Premier League title for Arsene Wenger and his men.

Where did they finish that season? 1st, and they secured a domestic double

7. Manchester United (2008/09)

Number of consecutive wins: 11

With a team that consisted of the likes of Rooney, Ronaldo, Tevez and Berbatov, it is hardly surprising to see the 2008/09 Manchester United side on this list. The Red Devils were unstoppable that year and went on a run of wins towards the end of the season.

From the end of December to early March, Sir Alex Ferguson's men defeated all in their way, keeping their tight grip on 1st place in the Premier League, which they did not let go of until the end of the campaign.

Where did they finish that season? 1st, in addition to a Champions League final and League Cup success

6. Chelsea (2016/17)

Number of consecutive wins: 11

Chelsea fans will be hoping that this year's group of players will not be restricted to a run of just 11 consecutive games. The Blues looked to be struggling to settle under Antonio Conte when they lost to Liverpool and Arsenal back-to-back but they have responded perfectly.

The change in formation to a 3-4-3 has been one of the reasons behind the Blues' incredible run of results which has seen impressive victories of Spurs, Manchester City and Manchester United. Will the run continue?

Where did they finish that season? They currently occupy 1st place but we are only in December

5. Man City (2014/15 and 2015/16)

Number of consecutive wins: 11

Spread over the course of two season, Manchester City enjoyed a six game winning streak at the end of the 2014/15 campaign, before starting the following season in the best way possible by winning five matches on the go.

Manuel Pellegrini was at the helm of the Citizens during both seasons and his side looked odds on favourites to take the 2015/16 title after a 3-0 win at home to Chelsea and 2-0 victory away to Everton.

Where did they finish that season? 2nd to Chelsea in 2014/15 season and 4th in 2015/16

4. Liverpool (2013/14)

Number of consecutive wins: 11

A memorable season for Liverpool fans but one that ended so painfully, Brendan Rodgers' side went on a 11 game winning streak towards the end of the 2013/14 season to put themselves in pole position for their first ever Premier League title.

With the likes of Luis Suarez, Philippe Coutinho and Raheem Sterling on fire, they beat title rivals Arsenal, United, Spurs and City, but a Steven Gerrard slip at home to Chelsea derailed the dream.

Where did they finish that season? 2nd to City on the last day of the season

3. Chelsea (2008/09 and 2009/10)

Number of consecutive wins: 11

The Blues' third and highest appearance in this list came from the days of Guus Hiddink and Carlo Ancelotti, both of whom had a part to play in Chelsea's 11 game winning streak over the course of two seasons.

Interim boss Hiddink led his temporary club to a free-scoring finish to the 2008/09 campaign, before the new Italian manager really made an impact with his side, in what was to be a double winning campaign.

Where did they finish that season? 3rd under Hiddink, but 1st under Ancelotti, as well as two FA Cups in a row

2. Manchester United (1999/00 and 2000/01)

Number of consecutive wins: 12

Containing the majority of the side that won the famous treble a year earlier, Sir Alex Ferguson's men went on a mesmerising run at the end of the 1999/00 season to storm to their sixth Premier League title in just eight years.

The Red Devils won 11 games on the trot, which included a 7-1 demolition at home to West Ham. The following season an opening day win over Newcastle United extended the run to 12 games.

Where did they finish that season? 1st by some way in May 2000 and then again a year later

1. Arsenal (2001/02 and 2002/03)

Number of consecutive wins: 14

An incredible feat that remains the longest winning streak in Premier League history after 15 years. The Gunners were a strong title contender midway through the 2001/02 season, but they hen exploded into form, winning their 13 remaining games.

Their penultimate fixture, a 1-0 win at Old Trafford, secured the title and their run was extended to 14 games won, when they defeated Birmingham City on the opening day of the 2002/03 season.
